The ideal Laptop
2025-04-26
Recently I have bought a new laptop. Actually, it is not new, it is used. This is the second time when I have done so. My first used laptop was a Lenovo T420; it was quite a while (around 6-7 years). It was just a bid on ebay and I bought it :) I like it very much. I did upgrade it (increased RAM, installed SSD, changed the WIFI card twice). It is still working fine, not super fast, but it works. It does not have a battery anymore. I removed it and recycled it a long time ago. I tried to replace it with a new one, but instead, I got a fake battery :) So, I bought a new used laptop again. It happened just last week. Currently, I am upgrading it (I should write a separate post about it).
Why did I buy a used laptop?
I will answer in separate post…
What is my ideal laptop so far?
- plastic or metal body - the material does not matter. The plastic can be good as metal. The metal can be expensive and sometimes easier to damage.
- easy to disassemble
- no hooks, or at least minimal hooks that is easy to open
- only screws
- no Phillips screws (there are better altenatives)
- no internal batteries
- one external battery that it is easy to replace
- access to SSD without disassembling laptop or easy to disassemble
- access to the RAM without disassembling laptop or easy to disassemble
- access to WIFI card without disassembling laptop or easy to disassemble
- WIFI card from Intel - best drivers for Win and Linux
- charging from USB
- open sourced BIOS/UEFI
